Hello there. I’ve realized part of my passion for music comes from talking about it - with words, with tone, with rhythm. This newsletter has been a vehicle for that, expressing ideas and opinions in a longer form divorced of social media character limits and the need to create “content.” Some of the most gratifying musical moments I’ve had are the ones in conversation with other music lovers. Talking about our favorite (and least favorite) songs from an album, the singles run, the accompanying tour, how it’s contextualized within the artist’s discography - all of that lights me up. I love seeing it light up others who feel the same way or who offer perspectives I hadn’t considered.
In that spirit, I’m launching a companion podcast to The Echo Spot. Tentatively titled Albums We Love, I’ll talk about an album with someone else who feels strongly about it. My love of music has brought some of the most creative, inspiring, dedicated people into my life. These are friends who know some of the same history and lore that I do. We often talk about the useless knowledge we have (ask some of us about Kate Borkwoski) and I think it’s time to immortalize it in the digital sense.
If you’re reading this, you are probably passionate about music! If there’s a record you like and know well, let’s chat about it. There’s honestly not really any set criteria other than I also have to know it well enough to be able to have a conversation about it. In the future, I want to do episodes where I listen to an album for the first time based on somebody’s recommendation then talk about it with them.
Submit your suggestion here. I’ll be working through them, scheduling, and recording as we go. I’m hoping to get a diverse group of records, genres, and people to have these conversations. I can’t wait to start talking!
